A Bite-Sized Interview with Laura M. Baird
by Donna Soluri
Laura M. Baird has been writing romance since 2017. Now that she’s retired from her full-time job, she plans on devoting more time to her writing and I think we will all be the better for it! Take a moment to get to know Baird a little and please know, she took me way back with the Avon Honeysuckle roll-on perfume, a scent memory I’d forgotten all about until her mention! Thank you for that walk, or ummm, sniff, down memory lane!
Psst! Want to get to know more authors? Check out two more Bite-Sized Interviews:
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I’m a strange mix of both (during the week). I’m usually up early to get my workout completed then get started with daily tasks. I sometimes have the luxury to take a 30-60 minute nap early afternoon before doing meal prep, hubby time, then writing, which then means I can be up until midnight. But on the weekend, it’s a free-for-all!
What’s your favorite scent memory?
Do you have a secret talent?
Hmmm… like putting items in their place and hubby asking me where everything is because it’s not right in front of him and tell him exactly where they are?? 😉 I can’t really think of a secret talent.
Which song do you have on heavy rotation right now?
Sugar by Maroon Five, which is on my workout playlist. It’s certainly not a current release but it’s such an upbeat song I love moving to! And of course singing falsetto.
If you could be anyone, alive, dead, or imaginary, for a day, who and why?
Rhi from Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series. She’s the strongest Light Fae with a fun, snarky attitude, an eye for fashion, and the love of Con – the King of Dragon Kings. And she can teleport anywhere. Imagine all the traveling I could do!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
I wasn’t given this advice, per se, but when I heard this phrase from a YouTube video my husband was listening to, it struck me: “Make them tell you no.” It comes from C. W. Lemoine, a former military pilot. Don’t be afraid to ask and keep asking until they tell you no. Don’t stop pursuing what you want.
All-time favorite movie or TV show?
Such a challenge to answer something like this because there are so many I’ve loved! However, one of my all-time favorite movies is Return to Me with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver. A sweet and fun romance with a remarkable cast of characters, directed by and starring Bonnie Hunt.
Has your idea of success changed over the years, either professionally or personally?
Certainly. I had this notion I had to please others; in both aspects of my personal life as well as professionally. In certain cases that still applies, but ultimately it’s my life and I need to be happy. I’m such a people-pleaser, sometimes to the extent that it costs me. It’s taken me quite some time, and plenty of encouragement and strength from my husband, to realize it’s okay to be selfish at times; to not give in to everyone’s demands. We don’t know how long we have so we need to make the most of what time we do have. (Cliché but oh so true!) And with that, success means doing what makes you happy. I have my health, my family, and my writing, so I’m successful.
Michelle Bosak is finding her way in life again at age fifty after being widowed for over a year. She’s always had an adventurous side, but entering a wet t-shirt contest amongst twenty-somethings? Sure, why not. It was harmless fun. She never factored in the instant electric attraction to the sexy mountain of a man acting as bouncer in the contest. And then to discover he’s a talented musician who makes her heart yearn again? Yeah, the night just got a lot more interesting.
Xander Phillips enjoys playing music with his band, helping his sister at her bar, and living life freely on his terms. But one look at the hot little woman on stage has him all out-of-sorts. He can’t resist staring at her gorgeous body, touching her flawless skin, and finding a way to learn all there is to know about her.
When the night goes from get-to-know-you conversation to a round of sex that’s hotter than the Florida sun, will these seemingly opposites — who discover they have much in common — make room in their lives for more?
