A Bite-Sized Interview with Laura Kaye

by Donna Soluri

Author Laura Kaye has a new book coming out March 30th. The third book in her Warrior Fight Club series, Fighting the Fire will definitely burn up your e-reader! Laura took some time out of her busy writing schedule to do a quick bite-sized interview with us. Whether you are a longtime Laura Kaye fan or she’s new to you, I’m certain you’ll enjoy learning new Laura Kaye facts!

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Total night owl!

What’s your favorite scent memory?

Oh man, there are a few. Boxwoods will forever remind me of Williamsburg, VA, where I went to graduate school. Fried chicken reminds me of my mom, who taught me how to make it.

Do you have a secret talent?

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which is a joint hypermobility syndrome, which means I can make my joints bend in ways they really shouldn’t LOL.

Which song do you have on heavy rotation right now?

I’m writing a WWII historical novel right now so I have a wartime ‘40s playlist on rotation!

If you could be anyone, alive, dead, or imaginary, for a day, who and why?

This is hard! LOL! Ooooh, can I be Bella from JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series because then I get Zsadist?!?!? (editor’s note: Laura and I may have had a little playful back and forth fisticuffs over our shared love of Zsadist – obviously Bella would eat us both before giving up her male.)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

Live like tomorrow’s your last day.

One change you had to make during the pandemic that you plan to keep when things get better.

Better ergonomics for writing!

All-time favorite movie or tv show?

I don’t have an all-time favorite, but I like anything historical – The Tudors, Medici, Call the Midwife, The Queen’s Gambit, etc.

What is your favorite must have self-care item or ritual?

Heated shoulder massager!!

Has your idea of success changed over the years, either professionally or personally?

I think the biggest thing that’s changed is that I don’t feel the same need I used to for fast, multiple releases. My shoulder won’t allow the kind of hours at the computer I used to do, and honestly slowing down a bit has brought more balance to my life!

About Fighting the Fire (Warrior Fight Club #3)

Release Date: March 30, 2021

One night is never enough…

For firefighter Sean Riddick, Warrior Fight Club keeps the demons of his past at bay, even though it means seeing Daniela England. Her ball-busting sarcasm drives him nuts, and he knows he’s damaged goods anyway, but he can’t help but remember how good they were together that one time. Now he wants to take her to the mats no matter how much they go toe to toe.

ER nurse Daniela England has lost so much that she’s vowed never to need anyone again. Fight club helps her beat back her survivor’s guilt, but it means dealing with Riddick. The hot-but-infuriating firefighter is everything she wants to avoid, which is why their one-night stand was a mistake. Now she needs to keep her distance so it doesn’t happen again.

But when Dani witnesses Sean’s motorcycle accident, she steps up to help him recover. One on one, they get beneath all the snark and find a connection neither expected. As Sean heals, the sparks between them burst into red-hot passion—and ignite old wounds. Now there are fires all around—and they have to decide which they’ll fight and which they’ll let consume them.
