Author Spotlight: Audrey Ryan
Book+Main wouldn’t be what it is without our content creators—the authors who share their words in the form of Bites—which is why we want to take the time to spotlight these talented women and men. We’ll be spotlighting authors writing across a range of romance subgenres, introducing you to their books and their Bites, and giving you the chance to fall in love with their stories. Today, we’ve turned our spotlight on Austen-addict, Audrey Ryan!
Audrey Ryan is the nom de plume of Andrea Pangilinan: daydreamer, wife and step-mother, and obsessive story consumer. She studied writing in college, dreamt about becoming a novelist and slowly forgot about it when real life took over. With a particular affection for contemporary retellings, adapting Pride & Prejudice to modern day has always been a dream.
When she’s not reading and writing, Andrea works in marketing for a well known internet retailer. She enjoys talking crazy to her weirdo cat, consuming copious amount of wine and coffee with her girlfriends, and record shopping with her husband. Oh yeah, and there’s that small Jane Austen obsession. That doesn’t take up any time at all.
Audrey’s “small obsession” with all things Jane Austen paid off in the form of a modern-day retelling of Pride and Prejudice. All the Things I Know sees Lizzie in Seattle—an Art-History-fish out of tech-centric-water—where she struggles to find her feet . . . and figure out what to do about Darcy, the guy she met when she first arrived in town. Let’s just say that when we read her first Bite on Book+Main, we were hooked!
Side note: we might have had our interest piqued even further by this editorial review from fellow author, Crystal Schubert:
“There’s a little more heat than Jane Austen could’ve handled, but I think we all wanted to see Darcy undressed anyway.”
Don’t know about y’all but seeing Darcy undressed absolutely works for us *calls dramatically for smelling salts* And look, we know you might need to know more than just Darcy’s state of dishabille, which is why we also checked out reader reviews and found these gems:
“This is one of the best P&P updates I’ve read.”
“A fun, modern take on P&P.”
“I am impressed by the brilliant way the author adapted P&P into this modern variation.”
Some very minor stalking turned up the good news that more is on the way from Audrey. We spied a post on her Instagram, and found a blurb on her website (receipts below), so we thought we’d go ahead and share with you guys so you could get excited too. Maybe we can convince her to share a Bite of The Heir Apparent soon?! Make sure you’re following her to get the goodies when it’s time!
For better or worse, Mrs. Bennet has always been a force of nature in the Bennet household. Her foibles, her nerves, and her vulgarity are a defining part of Elizabeth Bennet’s life. But what if she was gone?
Left to the sole care of Mr. Bennet for the last seven years, his girls are sent off to school or to the care of others. It’s not until the impending second marriage of Mr. Bennet that the family reunites – just as a newcomer has taken a lease at Netherfield.
After the tumultuous events of a summer he would rather forget, Fitzwilliam Darcy has to get away and so choses to spend his autumn with his friend Charles Bingley at Netherfield. There he meets the captivating Miss Elizabeth Bennet and a natural romance starts to unfold.
Until the letters start to arrive.
What if Darcy was forced to question everything about himself he knew to be true?
