Every other week, we share tips, tricks, and new release information to help both readers and authors get familiar with Book+Main. We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions, but if you have something you’d like more information on, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Look, we aren’t the type to nag. It’s just not our thing. But, having said that, this week’s Biteucation is all about Housekeeping.
No, not that kind of housekeeping. (We don’t see mess or dust. All we see is someone who needs a new book to read.) The kind of housekeeping that brings your Book+Main profile up to date. And now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s get to it!
BUT MOM, DO I HAVE TO?
Look, no. You don’t, but… For authors (actually, for all B+M users), it’s super important to have all the latest and greatest information on your profile. Why? Because that way you’re getting the best out of Book+Main—and so are the people visiting your profile.
Think of it like this: if a reader finds one of your Bites and is intrigued, you want them to be able to do several things, like click through to a retailer to purchase the book, view more Bites to see if there’s something else that tickles their fancy, visit your website to learn more about you. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, which is why we’ve created a checklist and graphic for you!
There are a few of things we REALLY want you to do to make sure your profile is looking its best.
✓ Make sure ALL of your books are added to Book+Main.
✓ Make sure ALL of your books have a Flame Rating. This is very important; we can’t stress that enough. Learn more about Flame Ratings here.
✓ Attach books to your Bites if you haven’t in the past.
✓ Update your hashtags and keywords to have FIVE of each—at least one sub-genre for keywords is best! Learn more about Keywords here.
✓ Update or add your profile picture.
As you can see from the handy-dandy graphic, there are a few more items to check off, and in order to make some of the suggested updates to your profile, you do need to have a Pro Author account. Authors with a Free Author account have limited access to certain features, but never fear! Upgrading is easy and can be done directly from your Author Dashboard.
We hope it goes without saying, but if you need assistance, or have questions, send us an email at email@example.com.
I’M NOT AN AUTHOR, SO THIS ISN’T ABOUT ME…
Readers, we hear you. And although “cleaning up” your account may not have the same impact as an author’s, it’s important to remember that you’re not necessarily the same person you were when you first registered your account. (For example, we used to wear actual pants. Now, we alternate pajamas and yoga pants, and honestly, life’s just better this way.)
Maybe you like things more—or less—spicy or perhaps your email address has changed. It’s possible that you’ve widened your reading to include new sub-genres, or that you’ve decided that you’d like to be known as IcyBee99 forevermore. (Yes, that was one of our real email addresses back in the day. No, we won’t tell you whose.) Regardless, take some time to hit “Edit Profile” and “Edit Settings” from your computer—or simply “Edit” from the app—next time you’re on B+M and make sure that everything’s as it should be, okay?
