Ex-Spouse Day: A Second Chance Round-Up
by Donna Soluri
According to my handy-dandy, odd holiday tracker, today is National Ex-Spouse Day. Some people have ex-spouses they hope to never be in the same state with again, and some folks luck out and have exes they wouldn’t mind falling in love with all over again. Where you fall on that spectrum is your personal cross to bear, but I’m going to pull from the latter for the theme of today. If you happen to be lucky enough to have an ex-spouse you wouldn’t mind hooking back up with for a second time, it really is the ultimate in second chance romance, isn’t it? Yes, I realize I’ve made the creation of this #SecondChance romance list ridiculously difficult by putting the ex-spouse parameter to it but, my reader friends, here at Book+Main, we are willing to go the extra mile to help you reach your reading goals. Sometimes we do that by introducing books you didn’t even know you wanted!
PARADISE by Judith Mc Naught
Judith McNaught might be one of the La Grande Dames of historical romance, but Paradise is a contemporary romance. In their late teenage years, Indiana farm boy Matthew Farrell falls in love with the belle of the country club set, Meredith Bancroft. They have a once-in-a-lifetime passion that leads to a once-in-a-lifetime betrayal. Years later, corporate raider Matt encounters his ex during a hostile takeover that threatens her family’s empire and, more importantly, Meredith and Matt’s fragile hearts. At 700+ pages, this epic love story does not disappoint.
NOT QUITE A HUSBAND by Sherry Thomas
Bryony Asquith and Leo Marsden’s marriage lasted about as long as the honeymoon. They were admittedly an odd pairing — Leo handsome and highly sought after in society, Bryony’s disdain for society’s norms led her to become a doctor. Three years after their annulment, Leo seeks out his ex to return her home to her sister urgently. Traveling back to England rekindles passion, but can it heal broken hearts?
LADY ISABELLA’S SCANDALOUS MARRIAGE by Jennifer Ashley
I love Ashley’s Mackenzies & McBrides so much, I’d be remiss if I left them off this list! Eighteen-year-old Lady Isabella stunned society by eloping with Lord Mac Mackenzie on the evening of her coming-out ball. Three years later, she further scandalized society by leaving him. Now, three years after that, Mac returns and determined to win Isabella back, especially after she poses nude for Mac’s erotic paintings. That Lady Isabella certainly is a scandalous scamp! But when someone threatens Isabella, Mac becomes her protector and begins the arduous task of making her his again.

— Maya Angelou
MY ONE AND ONLY by Kristan Higgins
Divorce attorney Harper has had a run of bad luck recently. Bad luck that culminates in her running into her ex-husband while attending her sister’s destination wedding. In a cruel twist of fate, Harper and Nick end up on a cross-country road trip that stirs up all of the frustratingly good feelings they used to have for each other. Nick knows Harper has always been the one. He just has to convince her of that before he returns her home to her almost fiancé.
THE DARKEST HOUR by Maya Banks
The first book in Banks’ beloved KGI series tells Ethan and Rachel’s story. Allow me a little writer’s stretch on this book’s inclusion. For the last year, Ethan has believed his wife Rachel was dead, and the grief and guilt just about did him in, until an anonymous phone lets him know Rachel is alive and in danger. Together with his brothers, the KGI team kicks into action to save Rachel, but once Ethan gets her back, he has to make her remember their darkest hour so they can find their love together again.

CLOSE TO HOME by Lily Everett
Tessa Alexander moves to Sanctuary Island to leave behind her marriage to a man who didn’t love her the way she loved him. Johnny spent two years deep undercover, unable to let his wife into his dangerous world. When he finally breaks the case, he returns home to find her gone. Tessa found her voice during their time apart, and she’s no longer the timid young woman he married — she’s a force of nature now, and Johnny will do anything to convince her to come back to him.
THE BIG BAD WOLF’S EX by Tonya Brooks
Reece Lassiter had everything a wolf shifter could want: power, and the perfect mate, Jolie. She was the only woman he ever loved, and when she betrayed him, he cut her out in a way so ruthless it even shocked him. But, he’d been wrong. Jolie had not betrayed him; he had betrayed her and destroyed them both in the process. Oh, I sense a big grovel coming from a big bad wolf, don’t you? Huge grovels are my catnip!
BIRTHRIGHT by Nora Roberts
Can a list even be called a list without a book by Nora Roberts? I think not! Archaeologist Callie Dunbrook is called out of her sabbatical when five-thousand-year-old human bones are found at a construction site in the small town of Woodsboro. Danger, suspense, and adventure ensue. The only thing worse than death threats is having to spend time with her irritating but irresistible ex-husband Jake. There’s much more going on under the surface than anyone can see!
