New Moon, New You

by Julie Laszczak

Our Book+Main team is made up of some wonderful people with varying tastes. As a little getting to know you, we thought it might be fun to spice things up by sharing some of our favorite things with each of you. My name is Julie, and I’ve been fascinated with the moon for as long as I can remember. The way it ebbs and flows, and how, even when it only shows a portion of itself, we still know it’s whole.

I’m going to be talking about the moon, the universe and how it relates. But if you want to dig deeper and learn more, I also have some really great recommendations for you!

Setting Intentions

Yesterday’s New Moon in Virgo is bringing us the ability to get organized. New moons are the best time to set our intentions and get started, as they bring with them the beginning of a new cycle, and a time to clear out the old and move on with the new.

This may mean you are ready for a new workout routine, a new meal plan, or even something as simple as clearing out the clutter in your house. Sit down with a pen and paper and start thinking about what doesn’t serve you anymore. Where are the blockages in your life right now? Could something as simple as reorganizing your workspace bring a better flow? This is the time to do it.

When setting intentions, it’s important to be clear. How does your goal serve you, but also, how does it serve the greater good? You’ll find the universe listens when your intention not only improves your life but the lives of others as well. You can write it down, burn it or simply repeat it out loud. Declare it whatever way you see fit. It’s also important to dig deep. What do YOU really want at this time? We have to clear away the noise and see what your heart truly wants.

New Moon + Tarot

Now, I also love me a good Tarot card reading. The beauty of tarot is that it always tells us what we need to hear rather than what we want to hear. I’m going to start your new moon cycle off with a single card to get you moving.

While the Seven of Swords can be seen as betrayal or trickery, for this New Moon I see the more positive indication. This is inviting us to be strategic. Set priorities and work solely on those. It reminds us that it’s okay to put ourselves first when tackling thing; sometimes we need to make sure we get our own world in order before we can help others. This card goes hand in hand with setting our new moon intentions this cycle. Get organized, clear out the clutter and set those priorities. Be careful to not take on more than you can chew (hello, 2020) and keep in mind your goals. If it doesn’t help you to further what’s in your heart, it can wait.

Do you love Tarot and want to learn more? Biddy Tarot is my favorite resource. Her book is my go-to when needing a reminder on a card or a deeper guidance. I also love her everyday pocket deck. While my usual deck is Celtic based, you’ll have to find what works for you. See what feels good and go from there!
