Look, I’m not the type to nag — unless you’re my husband and you still haven’t fixed the shower curtain — it’s just not really my thing. But, having said that, I need to talk to you about something important.
Spring Cleaning. (Or Autumn cleaning, for our Southern Hemisphere pals.) And taking advantage of us.
I’m fully aware of how that sounds, but no, that’s not what I mean. I’m talking about the fact that Book+Main is currently FREE for all users (keep reading for more info on that), and about cleaning up your profile. Or, as we like to call it, housekeeping. Which may sound familiar to you, because we’ve talked about this before, wayyyyyyy back when we were posting regular Biteucation posts. (Which makes this post a kind of #ThrowbackThursday kind of deal.)
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s get to it!
DID YOU KNOW?
BOOK+MAIN IS CURRENTLY FREE FOR ALL USERS
It’s true! We have posted about it a few times on our social media but if, for some strange reason, you aren’t following everything we do, then maybe you missed the memo. In which case, GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY! With exciting changes on the horizon, we’ve made the decision to make our platform completely free for all users — and yes, that includes Pro Author accounts. Of course, it’s always been free for readers (and always will be), but by making our Pro Author accounts free, it gives our authors the perfect chance to update their profiles, add new content (AKA Bites), and double check that their Keywords and Hashtags are still applicable.
It’s our humble opinion that having all the latest and greatest info on your account is super important. Why? Because that way you’re getting the best out of Book+Main — and so are the people visiting your profile. Think of it like this: if a reader finds one of your Bites and is intrigued, you want them to be able to do several things, like click through to a retailer to purchase the book, view more of your Bites to see if there’s something else that tickles their fancy, and visit your website and/or social media to learn more about you. (Hey, did you know that you can now add social media links to your profile? You can!)
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, which is why we’ve created a checklist and graphic for you!
Here are a few Spring Cleaning tasks to consider:
✓ Make sure ALL of your books are added to Book+Main.
✓ Make sure ALL of your books have a Flame Rating.
✓ Attach books to your Bites if you haven’t in the past.
✓ Update your hashtags and keywords to have FIVE of each.
✓ Update or add your profile picture.
and the most important update of all . . .
✓ ADD NEW BITES! Fresh new content = new readers and increased searchability.
As you can see from the handy-dandy graphic, there are a few more items to check off, but never fear! Updating your profile is easy and can be done directly from your Author Dashboard.
Readers, we hear you. And although “cleaning up” your account may not have the same impact as an author’s, it’s important to remember that you’re not necessarily the same person you were when you first registered your account. Maybe you like things more — or less — spicy or perhaps your email address has changed. It’s possible that you’ve widened your reading to include new sub-genres, or that you’ve decided that you’d like to change your username, because sometimes we make, err, interesting choices.
Regardless, take some time to hit “Edit Profile” and “Edit Settings” from your computer — or simply “Edit” from the app — next time you’re on B+M and make sure that everything’s as it should be, okay?
Beth Cranford was born and raised in Australia, but followed her heart (and her husband) to the United States in her late 20s. As the mother of two kids, she’s learned that you can turn anything into a song and that slime does not belong in carpeted areas (or polite society). You can most often find her with her Kindle in hand, listening to Taylor Swift on repeat, or spending way too many hours playing Animal Crossing.
